Welle: Erdball is a group from Germany often credited with being the pioneers of bitpop. The heavy use of the Commodore 64’s SID sound chip makes their sound instantly recognizable.
Their sound is reminiscent of electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk. With their first album being released in 1992 this is now their thirteenth album and is called “Tanzmusik Für Roboter”. After more than two decades of band history the band still sticks to their style. With their outfits, their artwork and their music. This brand new album comes with thirteen songs. All lyrics are in German. You can find female vocals on this album as well as male vocals. The male vocals sound a little more edgy and cut off, almost as if the singer is trying to imitate a robot voice. The intro is spoken by machines. The music itself varies from harsh to soft and catchy. “Ich Mach Mich Schön” sounds like a commercial. Welle: Erball is a band you should not take too serious but with a lot of humor instead. Again, all the songs on this album sound like Atari music including some of the game sounds. So it happens that “Gib Mir Meine Zukunft Wieder” sounds like a shooting game. This album will be fun for fans. For everyone else, it will sound just like the old stuff of Welle: Erdball.
