Arrowwood is a project from the United States that plays a mix of neo, pagan, psychedelic and dark folk. The band has released some small releases since 2006 and returns now with a full length album called: “Beautiful Grave”.
It’s Folk, yes and psychedelic. It is atmospheric and had many interesting sounds to hear. Windorgans, illusions and constant exhibitions of the oddities in music create a sound that is far from stereotypical. The album knows various side, but while listening it may more sound like discovery trip through the world. Travelling from place to place and each introducing you to some new culture that has perhaps a bit similarities to what you have seen before, but appears to be different anyway. Vocals come in, a femme reminding you of Liv Kristine. Some flute is to be found as well. All united in the way that it all has a pagan background. Nature, and here and there a sinister edge as well. “Beautiful Grave” it is called and that explains why. It has its beauty, the darkness, the death and the afterlife. Arrowwood may tell you how to deal with it differently, a bit of comfort and a bit of darkness as well. In the end it is your own interpretation, but with “Beautiful Grave” you have an album in your hands that gives you direction.
