The Swedish formation Covenant had its start in 1986. It took a few years but when a record deal came in the releases started to flow. Anno 2013 the band comes with a brand new EP called “Last Dance”.
“Last Dance”. The title itself sounds already dramatic. The atmosphere is a bit dark romantic on these songs and it does not take long for the listener to feel the song. It’s danceable and while dreaming away you might imagine yourself dancing to it on a sultry summer night when the darkness starts to hit in. The second song on the release, “I Scan The Surface” has a bit colder touch. It starts all calm and the song does not really have a catchy sound. It is more about the words here. On “We Go Down” you have a bit of the catchiness back but mainly in the repeating tunes. Then the EP closes with the track “Slowdance” which sounds like pure evil is talking to you. A whole different style again. A lot of diversity can be found in this release but the title track is surely the one that steals the show. Also two remixes of that track are to be found on the release, both doing the song justice in its own way.
Overall this EP shows a diverse Covenant. You can expect everything but the track “Last Dance” is the one you will fall in love with. It is a track that is at the level of being the track you may remind the band of, if you have not heard anything of them before.
