Saints Of Ruin are a Gothic Rock band from USA, combining melodic vocals and lyrics with elements of metal guitars and electronics. They formed in early 2007 by Tommy Dark and Ruby Ruin. The band is releasing a brand new album called: “Elevatis Velum”.
This release is one that you may need to get into. The first three songs are giving you some basic gothic music, not standing out too much. Then the fourth track “Stand Alone” is there to break out perfectly. The track has a catchy instrumental backing and while the vocals are building some tension by increasing the flame slowly the band has got themselves a track that makes you remember this release. But what counts for this track and basically all tracks in this release is the trap of the repeating. The lyrics all have a high level of repeats in them, which makes it balancing between a band that breaks out internationally and your average local. Bit of a shame, because the band has got the talent there. So despite this weakness there are good things to be found. Next to “Stand Alone” the track “Boundless” and Morrissey cover “Every Day Is Like Sunday” are standing out.
“Elevatis Velum” shows an album of a band that is on their way. Not reaching its full potential yet, but you might as well enjoy the travel along with them. It can only get better.
