Indie formation Steaming Satellites is coming from Austria. About a year ago these Rockers came with a debut album and the band is already done with a second full length release to keep it all warm. “Slipstream” is out now.
A relatively dark voice, with a melancholic edge, Maybe Kings of Leon as a reference but then in a lighter version. Calm Indie Rock, with guitars a a slight backup, not really stepping up to get into the spotlights, but remaining a bit of a mystery. Steaming Satellites is obviously loving the mystery, often the let your imagination get on the run with their soft songs, but suddenly giving a bit electronic element to bring a bit more tension into it.
Yet the band never really takes it up to a high climax, therefore the album does not really have a definite highlight. If you are searching for a song that will make you remind this release or even the band specifically then “Slipstream” is not offering it. And that is such a shame, because the songs are pleasant, listen easily and the voice of vocalist Max is one that comforts you while listening.
Maybe making it a bit wilder at some points would do them well. The opportunities are lying there in the music, “No Sleep For The Damned” for example, could have been more bombastic, more fire and it would have been that anthem to the band. A bit of a missed opportunity, such a shame.
