Releasedate: 2012
By: Sabine van Gameren
Dharma is a Gothic Rock formation from Hungary. The band formed in 2007 and in the same year their first release came out. A year later their debut full length was released and in 2012 the band came with a next album “Dharmageddon”.
Female fronted bands and you might have an expectation on the sound already. Fair enough, this is exactly what you will get listening to the band. It is stereotypical for the genre and not really bringing anything new to the scene. Femme Ani is unfortunately not really at the same level as the rest of the musicians. Instrumentally the band is giving a decent base, but it feels like the band is limited by her range. Maybe it is just that they do not use her voice in the most optimal way and should they find a way in which the voice and the instruments are in better balance with each other. What the band does best is creating some atmospheres that give you that Gothic feeling that they were after. Just some points to work on before the band brings another release. Time to grow, get to know where each musical boundaries are and make it work for all of them.
