Founded in 2005 the German formation Gates of Dawn started making their combination of classical Goth rock and electronic. The band released two albums, in 2009 and 2011 and is now ready for the release of their third full length album called: “Sepia”.
With an artsy cover the album looks interesting right away, but it is always up to the music to keep that vibe with us. Gates of Dawn seem to have no issues with that. This album seems much like a whole story, told with different elements, different styles and surprises, but all blend together perfectly. The tracks fit seamlessly even though the first track is more bombastic than what comes next. The more dramatic pieces can come close to something more darker, depressive but overall the band makes it work without giving you the feeling of listening to complete different tracks that stand far from each other. The cold “Isolated” may bring you into a mood that will be changed later on into a more warmer touch but slowly. Taking it step by step. Clearly, “Sepia” is an album that shows that this band knows what they are doing and that they delivered an album that sticks in mind. Well done!
