Corephallism / Gnaw Their Tongues – Split

Releasedate: 2012; Label: Devotional Hymns Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

Gnaw Their Tongues is a Black Metal project from Mories, based in the Netherlands. It all started in 2005 and since then quite some material saw light. Now a split with Corephallism got released project of Shane Broderick, also known from the project Twodeadsluts Onegoodfuck.

Corephallism takes it more industrial than you may have expected, very attached to bringing an emotional shock and let it all it all come while the synth is right next to obscure, distorted vocals. A start with droning that slowly brightens up towards the moment where these synths are showing a different side. A pity that these tracks are ending so soon, it feels like a rush through a story, which make you wonder if there are details left out that your curious mind wanted to hear. Shane Broderick, the name behind Corephallism, succeeded in hitting you emotionally. It makes you longing for more, both tracks have an end that came too soon.

Gnaw Their Tongues presents one long track full of ambient creepiness. As always Mories brings a piece of art that is quite spacious, it comes from deep, the noise that has a certain melancholy in it. Fear, darkness, the uncertainty of it makes it a very exciting release to listen to. It surely builds towards climaxes and therefore dragging you along Far from predictable and often stinging you with the fact that you just have be submissive and let it all come to you. Before you know you feel violated with aggression around you while in the start you thought it could have gone into all directions. When this is all over, you feel alone and empty. It’s all calm again and yet you feel the urge to get more of that violence you heard earlier. See it as some addiction, you keep on wanting it and as soon as you get it you feel great, but you get into lower periods when it’s not there, making you want it even more.

A great release, both artists have their own identities and yet they mix quite well on one release. A unique 10 Inch split that you definitely want in your collection.
