Sigh is a Japanese Black Metal formation. The band started in 1990 and has created an extended discography throughout the time. “In Somniphobia” is the band’s 9th full length release.
Avant-Garde Metal that has made some name, these Japanese have not stayed unnoticed through the years. Yet the band has transformed a bit during that this time. On “In Somniphobia” the band shows that modern influences are not hold back from them and they create an illusion of time traveling while listening carefully to this release. Some 70’s Prog Rock here and there. The coming in with saxophone does bring another atmosphere to it all. Maybe this all makes it a bit hard to find a red thread through it all. It ain’t the most logical order either, but each song comes with an individual identity. Variety is appreciated and the band remains with still some connection between the songs which makes this album more than a collection of tracks. It is one that you probably have to listen to a couple of times to see it the complete picture, but Sigh has the skills and the quality to keep your attention with it. A remarkable album that needs to grow.
