Right at the end of the year we get confronted with Geiser, a Dutch formation that is making Post Metal/Sludge/Doom/many different styles like that. They are quite a young band, started in 2010, but at the very end of 2011 they released “Bipolar”.
A deep sound, a good bass that’s quite upfront are welcoming you right from the start with “Pelgrim”. Interesting to see they have some quite light guitars included in as well, making their sound a little more accessible. Yet, you still have to overcome the vocals, maybe not to please the average musiclover, but with the passion its brought surely convincing those who enjoy the darker material. Usually starting it slowly the band builds towards the more intense parts and come with their climaxes quite at the end, not giving you the rollercoaster feeling but slightly bringing you towards that destination.
Geiser gives you a pleasant journey, showing a bunch of good songs, that suit together very well but still remain with the variation that’s needed to keep you interested. Good to know bands with this quality are developing in The Netherlands, a debut they can be proud off and for the fans of this genre one to keep an eye on.
