Zebulon Pike is a Stoner/Doom formation created in 2002. Their debut full length came out in 2004 and anno 2011 the band comes with their fourth full length “Space Is The Corpse Of Time”.
Although the band is originally formed with a vocalist, the band is instrumental nowadays. This did not mean they gave in to anything, their sound is still quite full and very detailed. Loads of little additions to a their sound to make it interesting and this works out quite well. It are these guitars that stand right next to a thick bass sound that create a playfield that brings you into different atmospheres and what I found remarkable is that they do this without coming into the stereotypical way that often comes with Stoner, the slow tension building. Their tension fields are shorter and comprehensive, bringing the stress, may be a bit compared to the way Shining (nor) does on with their blackjazz. A total different genre but yet you can recognize the same hyper madness into their sound. The contrast the band chooses between the bright and clear sounds and the heavier sounds is quite nice and make “Space Is The Corpse Of Time” a nice album to listen to over and over again. Definitely recommended!
