Dont judge this new cd of the Haunted too fast, I must admit it does take a few spins to like it. That is because they tried something different so when you expect the old pounding and rough sound of the Haunted well that is not exactly what you will get. The new sound is more focused on the melodic lines, still with a good doze of emotions but the brutal screaming is taken over by melodic clean vocals. In that way it is completely different. But there is also a lot to like about “Unseen”, the band’s seventh studio album. From a band that was founded back in 1996 they now come up with an album with very catchy lyrics, these will be stuck in your head all day.
The band has taken its time to produce this CD. Taking their time into building subtle layers of harmonies combined with a good amount of emotional lyrics and musical depths. Beside these layers of depth and catchy melodies there is also room for a good doze of groov. Like “The City”. Accoustic “Ocean Park” is then something different and let you hear that they can bring it very purely. This band brought fort an amazing album where they show that the Haunted has different faces, all mixed up in a very nice release.
