The Finnish band Blastanus delivered their debut album “Odd” in June 2009. They play as combination of Death metal and grind core and anno 2011 the band comes with a new release called “Collapse”.
The band says the have become more technical on this release and this is surely a thing you notice quite fast, listening to their songs. Also the band have added a new member to the band, Jussi Hurskainen, which brings in a saxophone to spice up the metal. This, though did not change the band’s sound that you got confidential with on their debut album “Odd”. The sharp riffs are still there present and fit nicely here. The songs got some more length, which creates more space for these technical outbursts and these moments in which the band show their skills at best. At the same time it is a release that opens up their sound a bit, probably attracting a wider audience. Leaves us up to mention that the band made a big step forward on something that was already quite good. With this release, I hope the band will play Tuska’s club stage(at least!) next year as they fit perfectly in line with the artists there that played this year.
