Crimson Sky is a Gothic/doom formation from Ukraine. Thought the band is formed in 1998, their debut full length “Rising” is out now. This after they reunited in 2010.
This formation brings gothic / doom and the first thing that stands out is the use of violin. These string parts are really a great part of their music and bring the atmosphere, so they are more upfront than you might have expected. Then there are also the keys who compliment the use of strings as well. In general the band have found a good balance in their album, leaving not instrument getting too upfront but a good harmony is made here.
The band has also two strong vocalists, thought the male vocals by Bohdan Torchylo are the most outstanding. He has the low, heavy voice but brings his music so calmly and controlled. The female voice comes quite balanced as well, but doesn’t have the same impact.
What the remark on this release may be is that throughout the track list the intensity seems to remain as quite the same. It has little variations but the leap could have been larger to keep the listeners attention longer. For the listener who hears it for the first there is plenty to discover but those who heard it a couple of times would need something stronger to hold on to while listening.
Overall “Rising” is an album that impresses. The string parts are a great add in here and it has great atmospheres. Really a nice release.
