This Upper-Austrian quintet was formed in January 2010. From the very beginning, they started to collect ideas and the pre-recordings to their debut LP record called “Harbingers of Devolution”. The band’s genre, as so often nowadays, can hardly be
exactly named. Their album is out now.
Arbalest is an experimental band, bringing different sounds in their music, but overall has a progressive side that seems to be coming back at all times. Yet it has a strong dose of Melodic Death Metal within. The riffs are often quite melodic and tend to relate to Scandinavian metal formations. The vocals come out surprisingly strong and mixing quite nicely with the guitars. The band really knows how to get your attention with the combination of these. A less prominent place is for the drums, but somehow they manage to break up front every once in a while. Songs like “Through Hell” and “Embrace The Moment” are most outstanding for the great structure.
The band surprises with this debut album. “Harbinger of Devolution” is an album that makes you curious for what comes next from. Definitely an album you need to have as this band is one you might want to start following now, before they become big, wild and famous.
