The Sound Of The Mountain – The Child of Stereo In Mono

Releasedate: 18-04-2011; Label: Stressed Sumo Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

The Sound of Mountain is a band from USA. The band recorded their debut album “The Child of Stereo In Mono already in 2009 but it gets released right now via Stressed Sumo Records.

The music on this album is quite experimental. Some Shoegaze some indie and instrumental teasing on your brain. What is interesting is that their music is quite calm and relaxed but yet has something in it that keeps it interesting. Some tempo changes might be the cause of that but the clear and bright tones they chose clearly have influence on that as well. Furthermore the band knows how to built tension as if they are a post rock giant, but scaling them into that direction would maybe do them short. Rhythmic the band got it altogether and this is where their strength lies. A little downside is the artwork that comes with the album. It’s not really interesting and would not interest me to give the band a listen if I run into it randomly.
“The Child of Stereo In Mono” is an album that stands between the post rock and shoe gazing. It listens easily and after the seven tracks I am still entertained. Shows that the band is not in a need of a vocalist at all and this instrumental piece will do perfectly.
