My Inner Burning – Eleven Scars

Releasedate: 28-03-2011; Label: Steamhammer
By: Sabine van Gameren

My Inner Burning is a German Gothic formation that formed in 2008 under the name The Core. A year later the band changed name and released a self titled debut album. In 2011 the band comes with a second full length release named “Eleven Scars”.

Usually when a band of this genre comes by you quite know what to expect as there is not too much originality in the genre. My Inner Burning is not an exception on this either. In their advance, the band has a decent singer that has some spark in her. It must be said that it somehow sounds a bit too clean perhaps. The question is if she can live up to it in a live situation. All songs have a poppy, catchy edge. Melodic keys, the guitars are all what you might expect and it fits quite well. The album listens easily and perhaps most of the fans of the genre will enjoy it. For wider audience the band will find some in those who enjoy listening bands like Autumn. As a bit of a downside about this album, it is to say that the songs are quite alike, which makes that “Eleven Scars” should not have been larger. The pain that leaded to these ‘scars’ has stopped right in time for now.
