Seven Thorns is a Danish Power Metal band which formed in 1998. “Return To The Past” is their second full length release.
What is quite obvious to say is the band has its influences of bands like Helloween, considering they share the producer but Seven Thorns fits perfectly in line with that band. Also a little Freedom Call maybe in it. Sure, it makes that the band is not really bringing something unique, but what the band does seem to work. The riff are more than ok, good solo’s are included and with the drums you can be happy as well, being a good in the mix. The band have been through some legal cases considering their name and perhaps that is also why this is only the second album of their hands. All what’s to say as a remark is that the band may sometimes take the easy way out on the lyrics. Perhaps this will be less important while seeing the band live but on a CD it might get a bit boring to do with the simplicity all the time. Overall there is not much against this album, it is not really something new under the sun, but remains a good extension on your cd collection because of the decent quality of playing.
