Tangent Plane is a Progressive Power Metal formation from Germany. The band exists since 1996 and “Project Elimi” is the band’s second full length release.
“Project Elimi” is the introduction of a trilogy, meaning there will be two more albums with the same concept. The Progressive part takes the lead, the band has their strength in that. When it comes to power, you might be a bit disappointed. It surely has a body, but it could have been thicker. The guitars are mainly rhythmic and not bringing enough strength to my taste. A little bit disorientating are the vocals. A bit of a German accent is in there. Jan Michaelis is the vocalist and it is quite clear that he tries to tell a story, which makes it a bit strange if you would listen to the songs in a different order. Also, they don’t really succeed in keeping my interest. After a while it just gets boring, as if nothing new is going on. A bit of a shame, because the vocals are pleasant to listen to, there are also some wonderful guitar moments on the album and the band seem to have potential. They just have not got the maximum out of themselves, but there are two more albums to go at least so perhaps that point will be reached later.
