Fallingice is an Italian rockband. They have been around since 1999 but it took a while before they started to release material. Anno 2010 the band came with “Meatsuit”.
It may be a bit confusing, the band seem to throw it onto different directions to make the diversity a factor that widens their fan base. They have some grungy Nirvana influences in some songs, but in others they go more on the melodic path. What goes throughout the whole album is the raw vocals of their singer Vice. They tend to be raspy and gives you to wonder how this man will sound the day after a live performance, or won’t we here him at all? Perhaps this side of the voice comes in a bit too often, because when a more clean vocal style gets introduced into the music it all gets more pleasant to listen to. On the instrumental side it may be more pleasing, guitar riffs are quite dominating and quite driving the sound. Drums are bit disappearing though.
Overall the album gives a messy impression, the band may be looking for the direction to take, or choose to bring the songs they made through the years as a collection of their history. The songs individually could work well, but in the complete album there is no strong structure. A bit of a pity, but when you pick out your favorites in a playlist there is still something for each listener whether he likes it more raw or more modest.
