Crossroad to Damnation is a Dutch Progressive Metal band. The band started in 2008 and in 2010 the band sent us their first demo (Review). Anno 2011 the band released their debut full length album “Trapped in Twilight”.
The enthusiastic we were about the demo, the more sober we are about this release. The band have gone through a lineup change, now featuring female vocals by Lorraine Lysen. In the first song the disappointment gets shape. Uncharacteristic sounds, this has been heard before. The sound of a young girl in a teenage band does not belong in between these musicians. In the upcoming songs there are some moments that she picks it up and shows some better skills. This mainly in the parts where she takes a step back instead of giving too much power. Seems like these are her stronger points. Also, the rest of the band comes out better there. At the end of the album she hits back to what we started with.
When the focus goes to the instrumental side of this band, you recognize why the first demo was a better success, they remained their way of building up tensions. As a whole the album comes a bit chaotic and the Dutch guys seem to be working on a way to make the best use of the voice of Lorraine. This does not make this album a one-piece. When they found the best way to fit in Lorraine as in some of the calmer moments of the album for example, they will have a more stable release than “Trapped in Twilight” now is.
