Korpikuusen Kyynel – Existing Exception

The band Korpikuusen Kyynel is formed in 2007. The band plays a Melodic Metal and released their first EP in 2008. Now, in the start of 2011 the band comes with their second release “Existing Exception”.

This band brings quite various music, on this EP a bit too much. Each songs brings a new side of them, but they are maybe a bit too far away from each other to define the typical sound of Korpikuusen Kyynel, that what gives them a face to remember. What can be found in here is a feminine touch, both supplying vocals. Front woman Maija brings in some keys as well and the lady behind the drums named Leeni is also giving some backing vocals.
The instrumental part gets quite some time to show off in these songs as well, guitars give a melodic twist to it, but perhaps too calm in their moments of glory for the amount of time they step forward. When they step it up in general, the instruments and vocals, you hear slight references to the band iRonica, also from Finland.
Overall this EP is showing a band that has quite well in mind what they want with their sound, but did not got to it out yet. A bit of a search is going on and if you focus for each individual element, there is clearly some potential in them.
