Metal, Punk, Hardcore. All of this occurs to Cancer Bats, a Canadese band, which started in 2004. The album “Bears, Mayors, Scraps & Bones” is the third album of these Canadese guys.
An overall view on this album learns that most of the songs of Cancer Bats have the same foundation. This means they are quite alike, but it is do-able for the 14 songs that this album gives. The band gives you some aggression, as you might have expected from them, but considering the expectations it might be a bit tame still. Vocalist Liam is surely giving some power with his voice, but in general the songs on this album could have had some extra speed. Most steady thing on this album comes, surprisingly, from the string section. Hear the riffs that stand there for what they radiate and form the constant factor on “Bears, Mayors, Scraps & Bones”. Also a bit disappointing is the drum work, lacking a bit of originality.
When looking back on it, this ain’t a bad album, but for those who are owning the other albums of this bands as well, it might be not enough. Those people expected some more of them and therefore this album is a little disappointing.
