[schema type=”review” name=”Gurls – Run Boy, Run” description=”Label: Grappa Music” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2018-04-01″ ]Gurls are a group of ladies playing some jazzy music. They released the album “Run Boy, Run”.
Good, as a music lover I appreciate the lovely sweet voices on this release, the saxophone that plays that smooth tunes for you, the minimalistic approach is one thing… but hell this album makes me want to fall asleep. Trying to keep my eyes open, I feel myself becoming agitated. I want to destroy things, scream on the top of my lungs to get all that frustration out. No extreme metal band has achieved that with me, so that is something.
“Pork Chop Lover” comes by and all that jumps to mind is: “What the fuck?!?!”. Was there no inspiration with a bit more weight that they had to come up with this?! “Snap” is equally annoying so that does not really help the ladies either.
“The Boy Who Came To Town” is different, it is slow and calm, so that you feel like searching for your pillow again.
Ok, the album is simply not one that had to end up here. To keep a more positive note towards the end of this article: The voices of them ladies are lovely and could bring a lot. Just when they bring it all with a bit more excitement I think we could truly enjoy it. Many others in this genre spark us more.
