Swiss Indierock duo Barbara Lehnhoff and Aris Bassetti are forming Peter Kernel. Started at art academy they are now getting ready to release album number four. ‘The Size of The Night” is available now.
The two certainly know how to draw attention, the dog on their cover is too cute to ignore. Musically they go to a dark, melancholic feel and combined with a rather experimental touch the band does not only have the dog that makes sure people pay attention. Sometimes they go rather minimalistic while in other moments they have a wilder mix and a more vivid sound to their songs. A diverse album, quite welcome. Overall the focus of their music is found in the story they bring. The words, but the words don’t mean anything without the way they are presented and in that lays the strength of Peter Kernel. Well thought songs that have the right impact at the right moments.
Sometimes you suspect the whole could get a bit predictable but then the two manage to surprise you again.
Altogether Peter Kernel made a fine release. It does not look like the various albums you have in your collection but it does match with the rest anyway. A charming release!
