Alcest – Kodama

[schema type=”review” name=”Alcest – Kodama” description=”Label: Prophecy” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2016-09-30″ ]French act Alcest is returning with a new album. It is called “Kodama” and this their fifth album.

The dreamy music of Alcest is sometimes a bit hard to define, Metal… hmm yes and no. Dark and dreamy, absolute. Shoegazing… yes and maybe not fully. Alcest is Alcest. You just have to try that. In 2014 they released “Shelter” with whom they gathered a lot of new fans and you could say they are going through with that on this release as musically they simply expanded on their own sound. Perhaps they looked a bit more through what they have done before, picking up a bit more of these sinister Black Metal vibes to embrace with it which results in a dark and evil sound that seems stronger than ever before.
What comes to notice that the band are putting a lot of time into the details. These details come to you the more you listen to the release, saying the album needs to grow a bit on you to get a full experience. No problem as the guys have made it interesting enough to keep listening and make you want to get more out of it.

Long time fans may not find too many surprises in the release but will be happy with the strong sound they are getting from them, an expansion on what they have done before and when you are into it, more of something good is always welcome.
