UK’s finest, New Wave of British Heavy Metal heroes MONUMENT return with the follow-up to “Renegades” (MGR Music, 2014), their sophomore full length album, “Hair of the Dog”, which is their latest musical creation up-to-date.

The album begins promising, an interesting riff which reminds me to Sentenced. Strange, as they surely not making the same kind of music, but it turns out that after that start the music becomes a bit more Heavy Metal. Not always the most original, let’s just say there is a whole lot of Maiden in there. And also it comes to notice that the band did not update this style too much towards a 2016 sound, but kept where they took it from. Sometimes it makes you wonder what would happen with some decades of development in that. Ok, the guys started this in 2011 so there is some time for them to work on that.

Here and there the band also goes a bit over the top with it, especially the vocals. Sometimes less is more and would the vocals come out stronger when the whole drama is out of it. Altogether it sounds very negative but it is important to say also that the guys have skills and potential. These riffs are interesting enough and they obviously know what they want. When they fetch a bit more of an own identity this could be a rather interesting band to listen to!
