Out of the early years of the punk British punk scene, after bands like the Sex Pistols and The Damned had set the standard, bands like The Dark, Crisis, UK Decay and the like were forming around them, not to mention a slew of other hardcore punk bands that would be even more popular in their genre. The Dark infused a unique and refreshing element of humor, kitsch, American nostalgia, and eventually, gloom, into a flat punk music genre that was rife with songs of drunkenness, chaos, and political die-hards.
Easy bass riffs, fast and shouted vocals or vocals that follow the bass line, easy rhythms and melodies that get your muscles twitch: This reissue of the 1982 release “Chemical Warfare” by The Dark is filled with pure punk music. The lyrics take you back in time to what was important more than thirty years ago. The music is pure and does not include any fancy samples or electronic tunes. Each music instrument and vocal line is recorded by the band. Hand-made, so to say.
“Chemical Warfare” is the debut album by Islington punks The Dark, originally released in 1982. The album includes eleven songs that carry pure punk music. You can even hear the age by some static sounds in the recording. This makes the re-release of The Dark’s album “Chemical Warfare” even more nostalgic. So let this album take you back in time and get the new release of “Chemical Warfare” now.
