PatriarcH – Rage of Gods

[schema type=”review” name=”Patriarch – Rage of Gods” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2016-03-05″ ]
PatriarcH is a band with quite some years on the counters. Originally formed back in 1983 under a bit different name they took this name in 1988. They never made too much of a rush with releasing album, it’s previous one came out in 2008. Now the band returns with a new one. It is called “Rage of Gods” and it is out now.

In the very first moments I was thinking of the band Savatage but they soon take it in a different direction. The band takes it heavy with the vocals also, quite raw and the production of this release is certainly strengthen it. That Thrash part of the band is what makes then a bit more unique. It cannot be denied the band has some clear references but surprisingly shows us also what they stand for themselves and that is a rare artifact. They play around a bit, have some effects and then pick up another tempo, drive you to another highlight.

The band brings variation in many ways not only in the vocal diversity, but also with different tempo’s. The songs self are defining themselves and one may perhaps be more to one’s liking than the other this way, but it has the effect that the album never really gets boring.

“Rage of Gods” is a pleasant album that has much to offer. A few live appearances are ahead and already past for them. Perhaps it’s wise to attend when they are around, it may take some years before a new release comes again.
