IAMX is the project of Chris Corner. Since 2004 he built himself a reputation but a couple years ago his health issues prevented him from touring a lot. Anno 2015 album he is back in business, comes with a brand new album and a tour. “Metanoia” is out now.
After a long break we now get to see an revived Chris who is ready to spread his music again. A change of scene helped him to be inspired and get some new material written. This new album is full of stories, safe to say that. If you fail to listen to the words, there is the danceability left and although that could be welcome just as much, it is a bit of a hollow IAMX experience. You are required to listen with care to get the most out of it. Then again, there is not much about roses and sunshine, the darkness comes back and the melancholy is perhaps one of these things that are so stereotypical for this band that it should not be a surprise, but yet it catches you again. It is there and quite straightforward. Would this be your first time listen for the band, you better be prepared.
“Metanoia” is a very expressive album that is besides a personal one, one that comes with great electric tunes that makes you want to dance. It is an album that goes deeper than any IAMX release before.
