Zombi has been an instrumental duo since 2001. Earlier this year they were to be seen at the magnificent Roadburn festival and now they are releasing their fifth full length album called “Shape Shift”.
Electronic and Progressive a start that hints back to the 70’s here and there but Zombi makes it interesting by slowly bringing 2015 into it. A blend of modern and these things you have heard before by various others. A little bit of Jarre, and then some more rock. The smooth music the band creates is easy to listen to. It’s pleasant synth driven constructions is often keeping you intrigued and never even do you need for something more. Not all instrumental acts can do that, some are in need of something extra to keep it interesting so Zombi scores some points on that.
The melodic parts are building up and let you go, a playfield is created in which you are constantly listening to what the guys bring next, never bores you for a single moment and makes that the music does not disappear into the background.
In a way it is pleasant surprise, this release. But if you know Zombi already than you know what to expect and then you may not be oblivious to the fact that this may be one of the greatest releases of the year!
