The Dutch Yorick van Norden we know from the formation The Hype. After years of playing with that band it is now time for a solo release. “Happy Hunting Ground” is the debut album on his own name and is out now.
The Beatles, Neil Young and various other fine references to the past are to be found when you listen to this album. An album that anno 2015 is not very often landing on our desk, with its sounds so close to the feeling of nostalgia, but with a production that is anno 2015. And yet it matches quite well. Besides the reference you may want to look closely to what is in from Yorick himself. His songwriting is often interesting for its words. Makes you wonder, are these stories taken from life or where are they coming from? Here and there you may be looking for Yorick to put his own a bit more upfront but in the end you can only conclude that this album summarizes him.
“Happy Hunting Grounds” is a release that fans of these influences will surely adore. The music people always hope for to have something previously unheard to fall of a shelve somewhere just because that era came to an end. Well… Maybe not. Yorick is here to revive it.
