The British Witchsorrow got together in 2005. The Doom Metal formation then took five years to come with a debut album, but this year it is time for the release of album number three: “No Light, Only Fire”.
Deep and dark Doom, thick and slow… you know that type that drags you down in the darkness. Yes, that is something you can leave up to Witchsorrow. The band has that classical Doom sound over them and they embrace it with all their arms. At “There Is No Light, There Is Only Fire” the band is already starting with a sound that is rather clean produced. No dusty old school layer over it, the sound there mixed with anno 2015 which makes it pleasant to listen to for their deep sounds drag you into it. The biggest teaser comes at the end of the release though. More than 14 minutes long “De Mysteriis Doom Sabbathas” is slower than ever before and right when you can’t handle their teasing no more they go on with the song. A true surprising one to find at the end of the album.
When you sat out the whole release you find yourself pleased with a Doom album that has all the classical elements but brought at a 2015 way. Maybe not really the most spectacular release at the moment, but certainly one that comes with excellent quality. You might be playing this record much more often that you anticipated on.
