Riverside is one of the bigger names in the Progressive world. The Polish guys got together in 2001 and quickly won the hearts of many. Anno 2015 the band is releasing album number six: “Love, Fear And The Time Machine”

The album starts so lovely. Calm, serene and opening up the dreamworld that Riverside draws you into. Some vocals. The introduction of the guitars and then the rest falls into the song saying, here we are again and you will love this release. The lyrics you hear once and you sing along the next time, a result of the catchiness the dreaminess that is in the songs. If you know their previous work, you may realize that the band takes it a step down. Focusing more on the rocky parts and giving space to melodies to take their time and impress you. A decision that suits the band well as the album becomes really open. More than before the band focuses on the complete song, letting all the members come together as a team and not have one of them steal the spotlights all the time. That does not mean they left out all solo’s there is plenty of that to enjoy but it is not breaking away from the atmosphere of the songs and comes with the right moderation.
Picking out a song to highlight is not a task we like to pick up. All the songs are in good unity and are equally impressive. They form a whole musical story and are part of the whole. Whether it is the strong openingtrack “Lost (Why Should I Be Frightened By A Hat?)” or one of the songs that follows later in the tracklist, the band is surprising you each time again.

“Love, Fear And The Time Machine” is a release that is not only a must for prog lovers but is open enough to entertain many pop listeners as well. Riverside lived up to their reputation and overdone it big time. Well done! Chapeau! (Indeed, no need to be frightened for that hat!)
