Solefald is a Norwegian Black Metal band. They formed in 1995 and the just released “Norrøn Livskunst”. This is the band’s seventh full length release.
The band seem to have an interesting way of working, from fully traditional Black Metal to some more experimental songs that include collaborations with other artists. Most obvious are the vocalists. “Tittentattenteksti” contains the vocals of Norwegians remarkable femme Agnete Kjølsrud, who got fame with Animal Alpha but is now fronting the band Djerv and recently also collaborated with Dimmu Borgir. She also shows up in “Vitets Vidd I Verdi”, but more in the background. The actual duo that makes Solefald seem to have found a way to not get to disappear too much to the back. Both of them bring their vocals in as well and it is a bit of a pity for the ones that do not speak Norwegian as you get lost with the idea of the album. There is plenty to listen to besides the vocals, but it seems clear that the band wants to tell a story and this does not really comes out of the music self, so therefore a study Norwegian seems mandatory. Though the fact that they show of their jazzy side in their music makes it interesting. It would not be the most obvious to expect when stated they are a Black Metal band, but a saxophone in here seems to fit perfectly. Interesting album to dig into. There is plenty to hear and demands to be repeated.
