Charcoalcity – Greyscale

[schema type=”review” name=”Charcoalcity – Greyscale” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2016-12-10″ ]Charcoalcity is an Industrial Rock formation from Belgium that formed in 2013. The band just released their album “Greyscale” , which is their debut.

At first time listening I thought the vocals sound a bit like Matthau Mikojan but knowing he wouldn’t jump over to this genre that soon it is not hard to set that thought away. The industrial sound of the band is there, but maybe it is not as an heavy touch as we thought it would have. Not bad, taking it as it is it has enough body and the guys manage to set a quite filled sound. The guitars are giving you some interesting riffs, perhaps one of the key elements of the album, the words being on a strong following on that. The words are not something one can miss. A clear message is giving, political perhaps, but one for a nowadays situation.

Most of the songs are quite in line. I hoped there would be one that would jump out, a bit more catchy than the others, that perfect single, the live anthem of the band but this album does not really give one that jumps out over the others. It reigns on with the same feel, the same energy all over and it’s a pity they didn’t give a bit more variance in that.
Furthermore this “Greyscale” is a pleasant release. The band thinks it over well enough, bringing something which embraces their qualities, and of course there is some space to grow, it better be as this is only a first. Let it not be the last.

Line up:
Deezee – Vocals, Guitar
T-mo, Bass, backing vocals
