Alex Clare is a British singer-songwriter. Clare adopted his current stage name, Alex Clare, in 2010, replacing Alexander G. Muertos, a pseudonym he first used whilst still at school. His debut album, “The Lateness of the Hour”, hit the charts about a year after the release. Especially the single “Too Close” reached fame and success mainly because of the Internet Explorer commercial. His sophomore album “Three Hearts” was released in summer 2014 but did not reach as much fame as his first. Yet.

As the story of Alex Clare continues, we went to see him live. Playing at the Batschkapp in Frankfurt tonight he had quite an audience to play for. A mixed audience with a wide range of age and type. From student to business man, it seemed like Alex Clare’s fans are not a specific type. His music is liked by everyone.
But his live performance would differ a whole lot from what you heard on CD. While his released music is more dubstep and electronic, danceable and fast his touring concept is a little more settled: Alex Clare with an acoustic guitar only. For some songs he was accompanied by a fellow-musician playing a mini drum. A medium sized venue, filled with people, a huge stage with only Alex Clare standing on, he made it still a living room event for the family.

Alex talked a lot between songs, sometimes even engaged in conversations with the audience. Telling about his past, heritages and Jewish influences, sharing some traditional Jewish music with us he made us all feel like a family. His strong voice filled the audience like no one else, no need for huge arrangements, loud instruments or such. Alex Clare played songs off his two albums, mainly of the latest album “Three Hearts” though. His voice filled the venue and the acoustic guitar added even more warmth to the room.

The time went by fast. As last song he played his biggest hit “Too Close”. A little over an hour and the magic was over. A night we will not forget.
