Black Metal fest is planned with the winter ahead of us. Seeing some bands bringing that alive would surely suit the time of the year.
Black Decades was the opener of the day. The band is the result of many years of Hardcore Punk formations and now appears to be closer to Black Metal for that matter. Fair enough, it is perhaps closer but maybe not too stereotypical Black Metal. The band remains as a mix of diverse styles, raw and aggressive. A short set is played and even though it may not really been what was expected the guys are making an impression nevertheless. The band seem to have a clear vision of what they want and therefore come across quite well. A good start therefore.
Saille was next and they overstepped their predecessors in the way they are bringing us a bit closer to Black. The guys come from Belgium and the band is celebrating the release of a brand new album called “Eldritch”. The guys show they have created a good balance in their sound and this results in a setlist that you can’t really get away from. Here and there the band even takes a step back to give you a chance to let it all sink in while next they easily go back to the full power experience.
On a stage like this the band could perhaps have brought some guests for the music has a lot of elements that aren’t to be seen live, but logistically it may be hard to do so. However that would have been a great thing to see for the release of this new album.
Terzij de Horde is a Dutch formation that played at this festival as well. The band kept themselves a bit in darkness in the way they perform, but nevertheless they manage to express a whole lot of energy. In the beginning it seemed a bit questionable whether the guys would get the audience along for it is just as Black Decades, not the most obvious band to see here, but the guys seem to manage quite well. Must be said their set seems a little too long with too less variation at the ened as the last couple of songs simply did not keep our attention any longer.
The British Winterfylleth shows there is always one that tops them all. A sharp and buildering sounds comes over you when the guys play. An impressive wall of Black Metal. Recently the band released their brand new album called “The Divination of Antiquity” of which they played some songs. Good as a stage act the band is not the most entertaining to watch, but it is the music that does the talking for these guys, however you can safely say the talking comes in capslock for the band does not really need much besides it. Here and there some expression on the face shows the intensity and the concentration of the guys. With their full sound the band simply tops the others of today, an experience you might want to see again and again.
