The debut self-titled album of Dregen (Backyard Babies, Michael Monroe and other, short-living, projects) as solo artist released via Universal Music this November.
The combination of half-dozen of co-workers puts all their skills and revivals rock and roll. Face it, there are no ‘so-so’ tracks, all is mighty, dazzling and fascinating. Some trends have recognized as work of epic Dregen’s friends and colleagues. Like specific elements in The Hellacopters way in “Divison of Me” and “Mojo’s Gone”. The easy and light guitars with pathetic vocals. The Punkish Backyard Babies chords in “Just like that” fired up the riffs of total mess and never-ending fun. The weeping harmonica looked for Monroe-ish typical ‘hey’ from chest backing vocals in “Pink Hearse”. “Flat Tyre on a Muddy Road” is surprisingly bluesy part, which is a good attempt to look back to the roots of rock and roll. Another surprise is “6-10” track that is nothing but funk (or just Danko Jones vibe?). Sparkling “Gig Pig” cut the veins in hysterical way. The “Bad Situation” is heavy enough to make short circuit to equipment. The last track “One Man Army” is explosive thing for your ears wherever you can hear it… in your player, on the radio or even on stage.
In the measures of temperatures assessments, I give ‘hotness’ to the “Dregen” one. For the most energetic thing I’ve heard for a long time.
