Argus – Beyond The Martyrs

Releasedate: 01-10-2013; Label: Cruz Del Sur
By: Sabine van Gameren

The American band Argus had their start back in 2005. In 2009 their debut album got presented but anno 2013 the is giving their third full length a spin into the world. “Beyond The Martyrs” is out now.

The band makes a mix of Doom Metal, some Heavy influences and perhaps here and there a hint to the psychedelic rock. “Beyond The Martyrs” is an album that does not hold you back in vehemence, it is quite spot on from the start. Shows you at least what you are up to. The guitars are flying all around you, as if you are right in between them, simply a thing that the band achieves with adding some strong solo’s in their music. The only thing that lurks a bit around the corner is that the big picture, the whole unity of a song and album may become a bit unclear when the instrumentals are constantly fighting for attention of the listener. Argus knows how to sew these patches all together, so eventually the quilt called “Beyond The Martyr” is a beautiful item that will warm up a lot fans of the mentioned genres, but it is to hope that they keep an eye on it and not let it go out of control.
For now we have a pleasant release in our hands that lasts through the winter at least.
