Releasedate: 26-07-2013; Label: Napalm Records
By: Sabine van Gameren
Melodic Death Metal formation exists since 1997. The Germans are now releasing their sixth full length studio album called: “The Arsonist”.
Deadlock may have let us down some years ago when we crossed paths but after a splendid performance at last year’s Backyard Festival, our curiosity is growing for this release. It is the first release of the band having John Gahlert on vocals. He was already the bassist in the band so not really new after all. His sound is perhaps just a little more raw that what we were used to. The combination with sweet voice of Sabine gives a contrast that is deeper than before. The songs are catchy as always and a ballad called “Hurt” is creating a nice break in the track list. It’s not the most original track the band brings, a bit cliché, but gives you a moment to get ready for the more energetic track: “The Final Storm” in which John comes forward more.
“The Arsonist” is an album you could expect from Deadlock. Typical them, not really any ground breaking changes in their sound even with a new vocalist, but simply an album that the fans of the band will appreciate.
