Stay – Mersey Dream

Releasedate: 2013; Label: Fruits de Mer
By: Sabine van Gameren

Stay is a Spanish formation making psychedelic/indie Rock. The band is now releasing a 7” release called “Mersey Dream”.

Mentioned as ‘Spain’s leading Psych band’ you have your expectations ready. Yet the band has been quiet for a while. No releases, no concerts, simply five years of being away makes this release one that the fans were awaiting long. The band presents one new track called “Mersey Dream” and three covers.
It must be said that their own new song “Mersey Dream” is by far the most vibrant. It’s dreamy, warm and alive having this sultry atmosphere over it and gives you nice introduction to the band. “If I Needed Someone” a cover of The Beatles is also a track that drags you into the dreamy sound of the band.

When listening to these tracks given you feel the main thing to regret is mostly that it is only a 7”. It is a release that invites you to listen to the band’s own material even more and preferable a longer release. “Mersey Dream” is simply too short to give a new audience a full view on what the band is about, mainly because of the covers. But yet it is one that you want to hear on your lovely summer afternoons.

Tracklist:
Mersey Dream (Stay)
Guess I Was Dreaming (Weston/Rabbit – The Fairytale)
If I Needed Someone (George Harrison/The Beatles)
I See The Rain (Campbell/Ford – Marmalade)
