Lucid Dreaming is a project of Elvenpath guitarist Till Oberboße. In 2013 he released its debut album titled “The Chronicles Pt. I”.
‘Only a conceptual album is a good album – especially in the Power Metal universe.’ That’s what Till tells on his Facebook page. So that gives you an idea of what to expect. A stereotypical Power Metal release seem to be what he was after. And for this first part of “The Chronicles” he found quite a range of voices to tell the story of the concept. Perhaps not the most extraordinary names, but the voices behind the names are more impressive. It is not always the strength they put in, but the calm parts are getting a warm embrace. Like the female voice in “Side By Side” which gives a nice addition to the instrumentals. When the tempo returns into the track list the whole sounds gets a stronger body. In a track like “Land of Darkness” you’ll find yourself listening to vocals mainly as they turn out a bit unexpected here.
Within these tracks there could maybe be a little more elaboration here and there, but “The Chronicles pt. 1” lays a solid base for part two to grow on. It surely has its moments and you can see it is thought through. It could simply be brought in a superlative degree while bringing more bombastic parts in it. Even without turning it into ‘another Metal Opera’ which Till seem to be less keen on.
