Jex Thoth is a band from USA making Psychedelic Rock/Doom Metal. The band formed under this name in 2007 but has been called Totem before. Their self-titled debut album saw light in 2008 and now the band returns with a follow up. “Blood Moon Rise” is out now.
For Doom Metal/Psychedelic Rock the music is actually quite alive. Good, female vocals are not always the most heard in this genre, so perhaps this influences the sound in such a way as well. It sounds like the light at the end of the tunnel. The tunnel through a mysterious land. This sultry voice gets a warm backing of the guitars which create a quite calm but welcoming face to their music altogether.
Basically, Jex Thoth does not give a stereotypical sound and yet it does. It has all you expected from it but brought in such a way that it still comes out as a surprise. It is however, an album that you need to sit down for while listening it. Take your time to take the trip because you will miss the essence of it if you don’t give it your fullest attention. “Blood Moon Rise” may be that album that will become a classic in your collection for its pleasant way of listening. One to put on your wish list for sure!
