Black Oath – Ov Qliphoth And Darkness

Releasedate: 15-06-2013; Label: I Hate
By: Sabine van Gameren

Black Oath is an Italian formation making Doom Metal. They exist since2006 and have released their debut album in 2011. Now, two years later, the band returns with a brand new release; “Ov Qliphoth And Darkness” is out now.

Deep Doom as dark as it can be. A thick bass in there that seems to be one of the most outstanding factor in their sound. There to make a deeper impression, to let the music sink into you. The sadness the doom, you won’t feel very comfortable listening to this sinister sound. Vocals perhaps are more recognizable for the true Doom fan. Maybe Candlemass, Lord Vicar are points of reference here. Yet it must be said that vocalist A.th is trying well to give his own turn to that. The same guy is also doing the guitars in here, sometimes sharp but always modest and adjusted to the sound, not really claiming that spotlight in such a way that it takes all over. Kind of refreshing in a way, to see that modesty. When the band comes with some melancholic parts it is time to dream off. Simply sinking into the beautiful dark world the band is setting in a song like “Sinful Waters”, to be thrown into a different world again after that. Playful. “Ov Qliphoth And Darkness” is an album that has truly pretty Doom moments. A splendid release.
