Silverstein – This Is How The Wind Shifts

Releasedate: 05-02-2013; Label: Hopeless Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

Silverstein is a Canadian Post-Hardcore band which formed in 2000. The band released in 2012 an album containing only tracks shorter than 90 seconds but anno 2013 the guys come back with a brand new release called: “This Is How The Wind Shifts”.

The name probably says it already. The band seem to go with the flow when it comes to music and appear to not have taken any compromises at all. They are now teamed up with a new guitarist and some fresh input in the sound, which may bring a little shift with it. New guitarist Paul-Marc Rousseau adds his qualities to it and lives it up a bit. The music has a bit of a different dynamic indeed and while the guys seem not hesitating to bring a little concept into it to stand out by what the various other bands do, they created this album which comes with duo’s. There are always two songs that have the same theme, but seen through someone else his eyes. Like how couples can look at something different and yet find some unity in it.

As “This Is How The Wind Shifts” is the bands seventh release it is no surprise that you can hear the guys know how to catch their audience on a commercial level, but leave enough space around to bring their own sound into it. It results in an album that listens easily and has catchy parts but does not give you the feeling it is replaceable that easily. It is an album that will bind people to the them, a good release that will certainly grow their fan base.
