Mystigma is founded in 1993 and makes Dark Rock. After all these years the band claimed to have gone into a bit new direction with their new album. It is called “Unzerbrechlich” and it is out now.
Mystigma may mystify you at first. The first track on the album starts like it is halfway a quite generic song, a bit strange structure as it seems. Then in the second track they switch from English to German and throughout the album they switch back and forth with the language. The English tracks are easier to listen to, the language has a less sharp edge to the words which effects in the vocals adding to the atmosphere of the track just a little more. The band has the dark atmosphere and keeps their tempo’s relatively low, they never really speed up or create a huge contrast in intensity. This sometimes may appear a bit flat, but the guys get away with it by the use of diversity in the language which sparks your interest when you were about to fade out of it. The band closes with the cover of the Billy Idol song “Rebel Yell”. Not the most exciting version, but one that shows the band can make it a track and give their own sound to it, which not all bands manage to do.
Overall this release may not stand out for bringing you something wild and unexpectable but nevertheless keeps you listening throughout. To feel the tracks a bit more you just have to put it in repeat as the tracks need some time to grow on you.
