German formation Hot Mama is still quite fresh. The rockers come with their debut album called “Downloader”, which is out now.
Hot Mama has a pretty standard setting and their music does not have any wild escapades either. They created typical female fronted Rock in which they try to show their attitude as it is. Unfortunately after a few songs you have a conclusion already an while listening the rest of the album it won’t get corrected: It does not stand out. Front woman Sonya uses her voice in such a way that it mainly reminds you to one of those various bands you find doing band contest after band contest, but never built a crowd outside of their befriended network. Such a shame as the rest of the guys seem to have a straight idea of what to bring and the song structures could certainly lead to something. Maybe that could really work out well when they evaluate the way Sonya uses her voice.
Some lessons to learn as it seems and that is ok. It’s obvious they could grow in what they are doing, which would result in a stronger release next time. With “Downloader” the band is just not there yet.
