Yuvigi – From First Person Point of View

Releasedate: 2012; Label:
By: Sabine van Gameren

The Progressive Rock band Yuvigi was found in 2002 by Valentin Monovski (guitars, vocals) and Iavor Pachovski (guitars). The band comes from Bulgaria and the Bulgarian history and culture are a great part of their music. The lyrics are all in Bulgarian too. They now released “Siva Pustinq”.

If you don’t understand Bulgarian, the use of the language may be a bit hard to swallow but it does add to the atmosphere when thinking the band wants to bring up their culture and history in their music. The band has some playful parts here and there that may surprise you. Some keys that bring some catchiness into it, but then easily step aside to give the guitars space to add vehemence to the sound and give it a bit stronger body. The transitions between the part are quite smooth which makes it a bit easier to listen to. For those who prefer to know what it the band is singing about, on their website they have the titles all mentioned in English.
Overall the band has made an album that may be interesting for as well Prog-rock fans as a well as those who enjoy their music with Folk influences. The language is a bit of breaker though. You hate it or love it and that sets it all for the whole album.

Line Up:
Valentin Monovski – guitars, vocals, tambura
Iavor Pachovski – keyboards, vocals
Panayot Solakov – lead vocals, bass, violin
Spaz Genev – drums & percussion
