Devourment is a Death metal formation from USA. The band formed in 1995 but split up in 2002. About three years later they decided to give it another try and got back together and soon a new album came out. Anno 2013 the band is up for the fourth full length release, “Conceived in Sewage” is out now.
This is a band that leaves no time go to waste to show they are up for brutality and vehemence. “Legalize Homicide” is what they start with and that gives you straight the idea of what they are about. A thick sound, no need for a melody to go upfront and lead you into a track. No, filthy thick bass combined with guitars to set it up, but the drums are there to give it the strong backbone it has. Then, deep growls are bringing you words of statement, not the easiest to follow, put some effort in that. The band has the track “March To Megiddo” halfway the track list. That surely puts a break into the material yet it does fit perfectly in line with the rest of the songs. The last couple of songs go strong as the first part, but the break in there is the wake-up call to keep your interest with it throughout.
“Conceived in Sewage” is a good release that serves the Death metal fans perfectly well. The guys came with a good production on it and make it stick out far above many of the Death Metal releases that pass by Tempelores.
